In light of recent political news announcements, the Lycoming County Republican Committee would like to reissue its commitment to the original endorsement of Republican candidate for the Mayor of Williamsport Dr. Gabe Campana. It is clear that the Republican voters have spoken in May's primary election. It has been the committee's good fortune that the voters have accepted our endorsement and elected Dr. Campana as the Republican choice for the November General Election.

I would only ask the Republican voters to remember the commitment that Dr. Campana has demonstrated this past year. He has clearly put his heart and mind into running for this office and has not wavered once in the execution of his campaign. He has never quit or reversed himself in this race for the Mayor's office, nor has his vision for a better Williamsport changed.

I must point out the one thing that has stood out the most about Gabe as a shining example of what he is about, is the way that he has respected his party and has followed the party's protocol. He has worked hard to win the support of the Republican committee members and that same hard work is what pushed Gabe over the top to win over the Williamsport voters and become our party's duly elected representative, for Mayor. I feel it is important for all Republican to come together and support Gabe.

Being a resident from Newberry and a member of the Newberry Crime Commission, we have had minimal support from the mayor. The public safety committee headed by Gabe Campana helped to orchestrate the crime commission. Gabe created the public safety committee and then expanded it by being an advisor on the Williamsport Crime commission about 10 years ago. Gabe has worked along with Ron James in the past and helped to create the Newberry Crime Commission. Not once has the mayor walked our streets in Newberry with us.

Gabe has taken the time to walk the streets during our citizens patrol. Not once has she contacted us to see what our needs are. The needs we did express to her were pushed aside. A request was made with solutions attached on calming the disruptions at the Newberry Park. A request was drawn up last year and presented to the mayor in regards to combating the problems involving the youth at the Newberry park. The solutions were also presented to her.

We have received a lot of support for the Williamsport/Newberry Crime commission from Gabe Campana and state representative Steven Cappelli. They care about Newberry.

Gabe Campana has some great ideas for this city. He cares about the people, not only in Williamsport, but Newberry, too. We are taxpayers and a part of the city. He has expressed ideas to put community policing back in our neighborhoods and more police out on the street. He started public safety and the citizen patrols. He also has expressed ideas for putting more jobs in this city, high paying jobs. This city needs help for the lower and middle-class citizens and officials need to stop worrying about making things better for the upper class.

I was happy to see that we have a person who is not afraid of the mayor we have here in Williamsport. Dr. Campana's statement that he was going to run for mayor was great news. We have a person who is able to make a decision, not afraid to drive and walk through the streets of the city without a police escort, an honest person who does not lie, nor use words which allow others to be blamed for problems.

I am sure that Dr. Campana will not need others to help him do his job. He will not allow staff in his administration who lie to the public continue to be employed as a public servant.

As a corrections officer with more than 16 years of state service, I stand behind Dr. Campana. He always has time for anyone. He is completely open and honest. He is sure of himself. Dr. Campana is what this City needs. We need Dr. Campana. Our tax base is disappearing. We need a leader.

So our amazing downtown movie theater project is merely a few months old and already 48 percent over budget and months behind schedule. This mayor apparently cannot stop herself. Giving the land away for 12 cents a foot was not enough. She has so convinced herself and her six rubber stamps on city council that this project must continue at any cost to the taxpayer that there is no turning back from this money pit now.

We have nothing more than a hole in the ground and the cost overruns are just getting started. City Council's action to rubber stamp the mayor's incompetence is appalling. Congratulations Mr. Campana for standing alone and voting in the best interest of the taxpayers.

Being 48 percent over budget only months into a project would never cut it in private enterprise where there actually is accountability and repercussions for such stupidity. Unfortunately, in the public sector our tax dollars are used as an endless supply of cash flow to keep this mayor's reckless disregard for making sound business decisions alive.

These United States of America is a representative form of government. It is not a Democracy. This is why we have a House of Representatives. Does this sound somewhat familiar to anyone? This country has a document that we call the Constitution. This Constitution is a group of laws, which the fathers of our country came up with to preserve our nation.

The letter by Michael Eck scared me. He stated that Mr. Campana has a xenophobia (an unreasonable fear or hatred of foreigners or that which is foreign or strange) and despair. By the laws of these United States, people who enter this country illegally, are Law Breakers. They are using our tax dollars to have babies; get health care; legal resources and take jobs from our Citizens.

It sounds as though Mr. Campana is following the law. I would go as far as to say he is a good American. As far as being didactic, he was being instructive, because he is inclined to teach others. Illegal Immigrants have no rights in our country. They are a drain on all resources and that is a fact. They have no respect for laws. They break them by coming to this country illegally.

I would like to thank Mr. Campana for being a great American, who cares for our children and our city. People should read our Constitution and see what Mr. Campana talks about.

Some of the letters to the editor on the condition of Williamsport seem to imply that the city is just as great now as it ever was. It is not. Councilman Gabriel Campana understands the changes that should be made and knows how to implement them. I believe he would make a first-class mayor.

Get Tough On Illegals

I am Mexican-American. My grandmother was born in Mexico City. Therefore, I have an interest in the discussion on immigration. Gabe Campana is correct and I support him 100 percent.

We should monitor Hazleton and take action if illegals come to Williamsport. Gabe has the courage to face issues that others will not discuss. He is proactive. What don't people understand? Illegal immigrants are breaking the law. Period. They need to follow the rules and stand in line like my family and other legal immigrants.

I am impressed with Gabe Campana's stance on crime. He has held safety meetings, called for police on patrol, and recently stood on the drug dealers' turf and made his announcement at Crack Alley. Campana has the guts to stand up to the drug dealers. Mayor Wolf had her chance and crime has escalated. He has the experience, courage, understanding, and guts to be mayor.
